In this our second Architecture and Design series we will work with an experienced Interior Designer through research + practice to learn basic design principles and presentation skills. Discover how to transform your space to function well and look fabulous!
Introduction to Interior Design: Understand the problem!. Discuss the importance of space + function to determine brief. Using a simple worksheet, students document the particulars of their space, their needs and wants. Learn how to map your analysis in a spatial plan to locate all elements of your design.
Introduction to Interior Design: schematic design. Collect images from magazines, inspiration from books, colours and finishes to produce an inspiration board. Discuss the importance of keeping a visual journal for all design inspiration.
Offer basic elements + principles of design in succinct + visual way through a take-home worksheet.
Introduction to presentation techniques: Lets look at how to draw simple plans and elevations to scale. Play with rough perspective sketches (using templates) to ‘flesh out’ your design ideas.
Finish off sketches, gather finishes and finalise presentation board. present to class.
