INTRODUCTION TO INTERIOR DESIGN

Course Description:

Work with an experienced Interior Designer in a relaxed workshop experimenting with the elements that make up interior design.

Often it is just a few strategies of design that marry together to make your space sing!

We begin our investigation with abstract ideas of space + volume and through experimentation with different spatial configurations and a wonderful study on colour + trends, we will discover the beginnings of new sustainable design solutions for those problem areas of your home!

We will experiment with illustration in plan and basic perspective.

Students will take home an illustration booklet of design, sketches + markings, together with a simple inspiration board to inspire further experimentation.

Students will have opportunity for question + answer at the conclusion of the workshop.

 

Venue : Brisbane City Council Libraries  (visit WHAT’s ON for upcoming locations + dates)

Time : 2 hour workshop (90min formal learning + 30min Q+A time)

Materials (supplied by host)

  • art paper/sketch paper
  • sketch pencils
  • erasers
  • coloured pencils
  • old design magazines to cut up

USING COLOUR IN DESIGN

Course Description:

Work with an experienced Interior Designer to discover how to use Colour in Interiors. Colour is a powerful tool in interior design used to create mood, reinforce ideas and affect mental wellbeing. During our introductory workshop, we will make a mood board, look at our constraints, come to understand the colour wheel and explore some general tips and tricks for applying colour in your home!

Introduction

Colour – the creator of illusion and the maker of mood! Colour can improve mental wellbeing. So how do you choose? What are the pitfalls? Are there some simple rules to follow?

  • Begin with a MOODBOARD. This will help provide a focus for your creativity.

  • Keep in mind your base colour or COLOUR CONSTRAINTS

  • Understanding the COLOUR WHEEL

  • Creating a colour scheme: Tonal, Harmonious, Complimentary

  • How to create a MOOD. Touch on colour psychology and how to draw all elements together in a design using colour.

  • ACTION – using sample pots to test the colour. Experience the effect of LIGHT on Colour.

  • Mention Design APPs to have a play with.

DESIGN FOR DECLUTTERING

Course Description:

Work with an experienced Interior Designer to discover why it is important to ‘Edit’ our homes for mental health and mood, beauty and function! Take away some useful tips on how to get started, how to maximise space in your home and how to add personality.

Introduction

We spend so much time in our homes and rely on the space to support many functions, from work to play and everything in between! The ‘what’ and ‘how’ we fill our spaces can go a long way to affecting our mood and productivity. Sometimes we just need a few tips on how to begin, how to maximise space and how to retain the heart + soul of your home!

  • How to get started? Lets explore a checklist of reasonable goals for decluttering.

  • How to maximise space in your home. Exploring built-in’s and modular furniture, streamline storage/furnishings, colour schemes, mulitpurpose furniture for flexibility.

  • How to add personality not perfection! Our homes need soul and your collections provide character. Lets look at how to use them well! Grouping + curating, mood board for inspiration.

  • Trouble shooting. Share some examples of challenging decorating dilemmas! Take questions.Questions
